Downtown Easton has plenty of coffee shops and cafes up and down its grid, but exactly zero of them serve regular cafe goods infused with CBD. The first one is on the way.
The 420 CBD Lounge & Cafe plans to open its doors in mid-August at 436 Northampton St., up the road from Centre Square and across from the State Theatre. It’s prime real estate for the cafe, which will offer CBD-infused smoothies, coffee, teas and mocktails, plus an array of hemp-centric retail goods.
The foot traffic near the heart of Downtown Easton is a big benefit. The cafe, which is operated by Pocono Natural Enterprises, is the second location opened by the company, though the first is a retail store and lounge, no cafe. Plus, it’s located up in the Poconos, so it’s much more of a purposeful destination than a casual stop on a Saturday afternoon downtown — the cafe hopes to be both for regular customers and passers-by.
Nick Martens, a co-owner of the company, said that a cafe had always been a part of their plan, but their Poconos location, which opened un June of 2020, wasn’t the right fit. This past winter, he saw there was an open space for rent on Northampton Street, and the rest fell into place.
They’re still in the process of “crossing out t’s and dotting our i’s,” Martens said, but the new space is well on its way to getting rebuffed and up to code before its opening.
On the menu are CBD-infused drinks and edibles made from as many locally sourced products as possible. “We work with more than 20 different Pennsylvania farmers,” Martens said, each of which grow hemp organically and sustainably. He hopes to bring other local restaurants and businesses into the fold for collaborations and partnerships as well once they open.
Martens said the cafe plans to serve seasonal options, so menu items will come and go depending on what’s available. But you’ll be able to order a smoothie and a tincture of CBD oil to adjust your preferred amount of CBD, or get a coffee made from beans that are nano-emulsified, so they’re already infused and you can see the precise amount of CBD you’re getting with your cup of joe.
As Martens and the Pocono Natural Enterprises team builds out the menu of smoothies, coffees and teas, they’re also testing out some mocktails. Martens recently made “one of the most refreshing mojitos I’ve ever had,” he said.
In addition to the cafe and lounge, the company’s full lineup of retail products will be available, from the more direct flower, oils and capsules to products like lotions, bath bombs and more. They’ve even got CBD products for pets.
With a patio bump-out included and plenty of activities like “puff-and-paint” sessions, the unique cafe is expected to be a welcome business to the Northampton Street mosaic.
