Missing persons banner is ready for July 24 reveal

news, local-news,

FOLLOWING a crowdfunding campaign, a massive banner featuring images of the city’s three missing persons will be erected in the CBD in time for Missing Person’s Week, held annually in the first week of August. The new banner will feature Jessica Small, Janine Vaughan and Andrew Russell, and will be fitted underneath the bolted down billboard of Janine Vaughan located at Carrington Park. Rhonda Griffin, who came up with the idea to have a billboard and banner on display in Bathurst and crowdfunded to ensure it became a reality said she wanted to thank everyone involved. “Without your help, this could not have been achieved,” she said. Mrs Griffin said it was fantastic to see the banner become a reality, and said it will be revealed on Saturday, July 24, at 11am. READ ALSO: While people are invited to the reveal, given the current COVID-19 crisis, she said everyone is reminded to be aware of restrictions, wear a mask, and do not attend if you’re in a locked down area. “I’m so sorry to those who wished to be here (from areas currently in lockdown). The banner must still go up for Missing Persons Week which is August. We can’t delay this banner. I’m sorry,” she said. Mrs Griffin said the Bathurst Missing Persons Banner will be displayed during the month of August, on the huge Bathurst People’s Community Billboard. “This is a special occasion for all three families,” she said. She said it was a bittersweet moment to have it completed. “We all wanted this billboard, but it’s terrible there are three families all looking for answers.” She said she is desperately hoping having Jessica’s, Janine’s and Andrew’s faces up will encourage anyone with information to come forward. Mrs Griffin said previously she was haunted by the fact three people have been abducted in the city, and what that has done to their families. “I cannot imagine what they have gone through or how they feel, every day, every year for all these years,” she said. Both Jessica and Janine’s cases have a one million dollar reward for information while Andrew’s has a $750,000 reward. Information on any of the cases can be given to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
