Parking to be at a premium as crews start work on the winter festival

news, local-news,

CBD parking spaces will be at a premium once Bathurst Regional Council crews start working this week on preparations for the Bathurst Winter Festival. Council has contacted CBD business owners and residents to explain a raft of traffic and parking changes as a result of the festival. The major change will be the closure of Russell Street between William and George streets from this Wednesday, June 16 until Friday, July 16 for the Winter Playground, featuring the McDonald’s Bathurst ice rink, ferris wheel and carousel. ALSO MAKING NEWS: All vehicles will be diverted around that section of Russell Street but there will still be pedestrian access to the council civic centre, Bathurst Court House, Mitchell Conservatorium and Historical Society building throughout the closure. The Russell Street taxi zone will be relocated to the existing Church Street taxi zone, which itself will be inaccessible on Friday and Saturday, July 2-3 when Church Street is closed for the Brew & Bite evenings. For those two days a taxi zone will be established on the corner of Russell and George streets, opposite the Western Advocate building. Keppel Street will also be closed between William and George streets for Brew & Bite on July 2-3. In other changes, a 100m disabled parking zone and a bus pick-up/drop-off zone will be installed on Church Street from 6am-9pm on Thursday, July 1 for the LiveBetter Accessibility Day. The festival, to run from June 26 to July 11, will again feature the Illuminations display every night; Armada opening night on June 26; Bowman Dental Groove & Grill featuring local performers each lunchtime; Mars Pets’ Day on July 9; and Bathurst City Centre Kids’ Day on June 30.
