Stack of new coronavirus exposure sites emerge across Melbourne


Victoria’s list of coronavirus exposure sites has ballooned overnight with a stack of new locations added, including the South Melbourne Market, Kmart stores, Woolworths supermarkets, Bunnings and an IKEA store.

The South Melbourne Market has been marked as a Tier Two exposure site, requiring anyone who visited on Saturday, June 12 between 11.30am and 1.30pm to get tested.

The market has been closed today for deep cleaning.

“We have been made aware overnight that South Melbourne Market has been listed by the DHHS as a Coronavirus Tier 2 exposure site,” the market stated on its website.

“The safety of our traders and community is our top priority and for this reason the Market will be closed today (Wednesday 16 June) so we can conduct a thorough deep clean.”

Individual stores have also been listed, including: Fruits on Coventry, Golden Dragon Asian Grocery, Asian Grocery Store, K and L Poultry, Kirkpatrick’s Meats and Padre Coffee.

Woolworths at South Melbourne Central has been listed as an exposure site on June 12 between 1.44pm and 2.15pm, as well as QV Melbourne Woolworths on June 13 between 4.10pm and 4.30pm, and Woolworths Melbourne Square on June 10 between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

A case also shopped at Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre between 5.50pm and 8pm on June 11, prompting the food court and stores IKEA Richmond and Kmart Richmond to become Tier Two sites.

While stores in Melbourne’s CBD are also of concern, with a COVID-positive person shopping at Kmart Melbourne on June 13, as well as QV Dan Murphy’s and JB Hi-Fi Melbourne Central.

An infected person also attended Officeworks in South Melbourne on June 11 between 12.30pm and 1.10pm, including Bunnings Port Melbourne various times on June 12 and 13.

The list has grown to 144 exposure sites.
