As is the case with any supplement, you could also experience some side effects, especially if you’re new to CBD. According to the Sleep Foundation, preliminary research has shown that taking CBD before bed may improve sleep, especially for those who have sleep disorders including insomnia, REM sleep behavior disorder, and excessive daytime sleepiness disorder.
One of the most common side effects of CBD (along with other cannabinoids as a whole) is reduced appetite, which could result in weight loss. However, one downside to taking CBD is that it can also cause some GI distress, including diarrhea. But that could be a result of taking too high of a dose. In fact, some CBD oils are actually recommended to take to help reduce bouts of diarrhea.
Some people may become nauseous after taking a CBD supplement, which may also be a result of taking too much. Those who are extra sensitive to CBD may also be at higher risk of experiencing nausea after taking an oil, tincture, capsule, or CBD-infused food item.

Another mild side effect you may experience after taking a CBD supplement is dry mouth. The likelihood of getting a dry or “cotton” mouth is much higher when taking a CBD supplement that’s also infused with THC. However, CBD may also contribute to this symptom on its own. A small 2006 study on rats showed that both cannabinoids (which include THC and CBD) can play a role in inhibiting saliva production.
